O'Keefe drain study launched to service 416/strandherd corridor development

This is a heads up that staff have initiated an Environmental Management Plan for a portion of the O’Keefe Drain (generally the area east of 416, south of Strandherd/Fallowfield, north of Jock River, west of Cedarview).  The Jock River Reach 1 Subwatershed Study required that a more defined Environmental Management Plan be prepared prior to development in this area.

The objectives of the plan are to:

  • Consider the impacts and develop a plan to mitigate adverse affects of existing and proposed land uses on natural areas and the O’Keefe Drain;
  • Establish a stormwater management plan for future development;
  • Protect, enhance, or restore the natural system.

The Notice of Study Commencement is attached along with a map of the study area.  The project website is here: http://www.ottawa.ca/residents/environment/city_hall/getgreen/development/em_plan/inprogress/okeefe_drain/index_en.html

Local Businesses required to promote business studies in barhaven high school

Ms. Cathy Belanger is the business teacher at Longfields-Davidson Heights HS in Barrhaven. She has been charged with developing a business program at the new Barrhaven school. For example, she had a partnership at her previous school with a local bank who sponosored the Business Excellence Award at Graduation. Other local businesses donated prizes for contests run in business classes throughout the school year. Prizes were awarded to students who came to class first everyday, sold the most poppies for Remembrance Day and won Junior Achievement contests. Prizes are also used for a silent auction event run by business leadership classes.

Any business that is interested in helping to promote business studies to our local high school students may contact Ms. Belanger directly or you may contact the BBIA office for additional information.
